Sister Geraldine Smurawa, 85, a Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis for 70 years, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at St. Joseph Motherhouse in Stevens Point.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, 1300 Maria Drive, Stevens Point, with her nephew, the Rev. Michael Betley and the Rev. Todd Mlsna officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.
Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

The former Dolores Smurawa was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Pulaski, a daughter of the late John and Bernice (Jankowski) Smurawa.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis community on Aug. 10, 1943, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 10, 1950.
Sister Smurawa was a teacher/principal in Catholic schools for 50 years. Other ministries included parish organist, volunteer teacher’s aide, tutoring and ministry to the homebound. Locally she taught at St. Peter and St. Stanislaus schools.
Survivors include two sisters, Therese Janowski and Bernadine Smurawa; two brothers, John (Diana) Smurawa and Ferdinand (Donna) Smurawa; one sister-in-law, Bernice Smurawa; one brother-in-law, Irwin Betley; nieces; nephews; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Arthur and Norbert Smurawa; two sisters, Lorraine Betley and Sister Elaine Smurawa; and one brother-in-law, Joseph Janowski.
