Gary L. Hoffman, 69, Amherst, died Monday, April 1, 2013, of major heart issues in a Cozumel, Mexico, hospital after he became ill while on a Caribbean cruise with his wife.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, April 12, at Hartson Funeral Home in Hales Corners. A private family burial will be held at Rural Home Cemetery in Big Bend.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Friday, April 12, until the service.
Donations can be made to the American Heart Association and the Diabetes Association in his name.
Mr. Hoffman was born Aug. 3, 1943, in Milwaukee, a son of the late Lloyd and Anna (Draayers) Hoffman. He grew up in Muskego and graduated from Muskego High School in 1961.
He was married to Margaret Frahm on Sept. 21, 1963. They had three children. She preceded him in death.
He spent seven years in the United States Air Force and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bellevue College in Nebraska, in 1972.
After working as a police officer in Plattsmouth, Neb., for a short time, he moved to Allen, Neb., where he began a 30-plus-year career in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster.
He ultimately retired from Sentry Insurance Co. in 2008.
He was married to Vicki Gullekson-Cody on Nov. 8, 1997.
Survivors include wife, Vicki; two sons, Michael (Milissa) and Craig (Suzanne); one daughter, Jennifer (Grant) Cowell; four stepchildren, Amanda (William) Ogle, Matthew (Cory) Cody, Catherine Cody and Jill (Josh) Ackerman; two brothers, Richard (Marsha) and Thomas (Susan); one sister, Julie (Charles) Olson; six grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
