Mr. Morris was born July 23, 1924, in Effingham, Ill., a son of the late Frank and Nell (Woodman) Morris.
After graduating from high school, he served during World War II as an Army Air Corps sergeant from 1943 to 1946. He was a mechanic on B-17 bombers.
He was married to Mary Ann Garrabrant on July 30, 1949, at St. Joseph Church in Lockport, Ill.
The couple settled in Homer Township, where he was an auto mechanic/body repairman until his retirement.
He and his brother, Bernie, were two of the founders of the Homer Township Volunteer Fire Department. Morris Park in Homer Township is named in honor of the two brothers. He served as the fire chief for many years, and started the EMT and paramedic program for the fire department, which was the first in Will County. He also served as a Will County deputy sheriff.
He was an instrument-rated private pilot, and an Illinois State Champion Trap Shooter. The couple moved to the Plainfield area when he retired. They belong to St. Paul Catholic Church in Plainfield, where he volunteered.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Neil (Barbara); four daughters, Kathleen (Bob) Kaeding, Patricia (Richard) Link, Susan (Kenneth) Fijan, and Janet Morris; two brothers, Merle (Gloria), and Earl (Phyllis); four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary; two sisters, June Handy and Lorraine “Bea” Hayes; and one brother, Bernard.
