The Portage County Boys and Girls Club will hold its 9th Annual Portage County Taste of Wine and Cheese fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the Noel Group Hangar at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport in Stevens Point.
The fundraiser will feature live jazz music from Bob Kase, samples of more than
100 wines from around the world, locally-made beers from O’so Brewing Co., Central Waters Brewing Co., and Stevens Point Brewery, desserts, specialty Wisconsin cheeses, a raffle and a silent auction.
The silent auction will feature over 60 different items ranging in value from $15 to thousands of dollars, said Carie Winn, the director of development and marketing for the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County. A few featured items include a 55-inch LED TV, a Door County Getaway, diamond earrings and a local gym membership, she said.
“The one big change this year is that the event happens to take place a week later due to Easter weekend,” said Winn.
Last year’s event raised $66,000 to support the Boys and Girls Club’s daily operations, said Winn. It is the organization’s largest fundraising event and one of the most popular social events in Portage County, with more than 700 people expected to attend this year.
“It attracts people from not only Portage County, but across central Wisconsin,” she said. “It has become known for its unique location (the jet hangar), impressive display of wines, beers and food, and the organization it benefits (the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County). It is expected that this year the event will raise more than ever before.”
If attendees find a new wine, beer or cheese they like, all items served at the fundraiser can be purchased at Trig’s grocery store in Stevens Point, Winn said.
The Boys and Girls Club serves 1,200 to 1,500 youth per year at seven site locations across Portage County. For $10 per year, any child can attend the Boys and Girls Club after school and all day during the summer months.
Major sponsors of the event include: Delta Dental of Wisconsin, Rockman’s Catering, Spectra Print, The Noel Group, Travel Guard and Trig’s and Cellar 70.
Tickets for the Portage County Taste of Wine and Cheese are $60 per adult in advance or $65 at the door and can be purchased online at bgclubpc.org, at Trig’s or at the door. All proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County.
