Some Portage County departments will begin moving their offices to new locations in March.
The Portage County Board of Supervisors approved the moves 19-4 Tuesday, Feb. 19, with two supervisors excused. The moving and related expenses are expected to cost $272,250, including a contingency fund.
Portage County Executive Patty Dreier said the moves are prompted by a desire to put the child support agency from the County-City Building under the same roof as the Health and Human Services Department in Gilfry Center because the agency works closely with that department.
Putting them under the same roof will also provide the county with an additional $70,000 in revenues, she said, and provide social workers with a work station to use in Gilfry while waiting to assist the Child Support Agency.
That agency will make the move to Gilfry into the University of Wisconsin-Extension offices there about March 11. The Extension offices will then move temporarily into the Child Support Agency offices.
