With just over two weeks left in the regular season, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) women’s hockey team is in the mix for the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Title.
The Pointers (10-7-3, 8-4-3) are currently fourth in the conference with 19 points, as they trail UW-River Falls (22 points), Adrian (21) and Lake Forest (20) with five games to go.
UWSP will host Marian (3-13-2, 2-9-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, and then a pair of games against UW-Superior (11-6-1, 8-5-1) Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9, before a home and away series against St. Norbert College (9-8-2, 7-6-1) Feb. 15-16.
“We’ve had plenty of ups and downs,” said seventh-year UWSP women’s hockey head coach Ann Ninnemann of this season. “We’re a young team so that’s kind of what you get, a little bit of inconsistency.
“We’ve won some big games and we’ve been in some pretty good games, but the exciting part is that we know we can play with anybody in our conference,” said Ninnemann. “So as long as we peak at the right time and we’re ready to go in the playoffs, I think we’ll have a lot of good things to come.”
