The Stevens Point Area School Board Monday, Jan. 14, decided in closed session to wait until August to make a decision on renewing Superintendent Attila Weninger’s contract for the 2014-15 school year.
The action followed an open session meeting in which a number of Stevens Point Area Education Association (SPAEA) members voiced opposition to the renewal of Weninger’s contract, while others expressed their support of him.
SPAEA President Pat Leahy said Weninger’s administration is based on inducing fear among district employees and refusing to communicate with them.
SPAEA member Art Greco said the district operates best when the administration and teachers can collaborate and communication is transparent and open. “There is no evidence we have had that,” he said.
