Francis J. “Frank” Shields, 84, Plover, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point, while under the care of Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Casimir Catholic Church in the town of Hull, with the Rev. Arul Joseph V. officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass. American Legion Post 6 will hold a ritual at 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Elks will hold a ritual at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, and the parish rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday, all at the funeral home.
Memorials in his name will be established at a later date.

Mr. Shields was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Far Rockaway, N.Y., a son of the late John and Irene (Byrnes) Shields. He graduated from Valley Stream Central High School in 1946.
He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 20, 1949, in Lynbrook, N.Y. He was honorably discharged Jan. 19, 1950, at Fort Riley in Kansas. He re-enlisted in the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged on Jan. 19, 1955.
He was married to Ann Riordan on Oct. 11, 1952, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Lynbrook, N.Y.
After the marriage they lived in Rockville Center, N.Y. They moved to Stevens Point in 1964.
He worked for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, retiring on April 6, 1990.
He was a member of the Stevens Point Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 6.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bradley (Ellen), Menomonie Falls, Thomas (Vilma), Murietta, Calif., and Frank Jr. (Tammy), Stevens Point; five daughters, Lynne (Steve) Snyder, Bloomington, Ind., Denise (Thomas) Shields-Kvasnicka, Brookfield, Ann Dudzik, Lake Tomahawk, Geraldine (Rodger) Butler, Stevens Point, and Erica Shields, Plover; one sister, Irene Mahon, Long Island, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Ann; one son, Philip; two brothers, Thomas and Jack; and one sister, Janet.
