Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Cress Funeral Home in Madison. A private family burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Madison.

Mrs. Renfert was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Norwalk, a daughter of the late A.G. “Tad” Wepfer and Bertha Prock Wepfer. She grew up working in the family drug store in Norwalk. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1936 and moved to Madison to attend the University of Wisconsin (UW).
During World War II she helped in the war effort by working as a cryptographer for the OSS in Washington, D.C.
She graduated from UW in 1945 and became a social worker. Her varied career included stints as a parole officer, an adoption agent and a child welfare case worker.
She was married to Frederic F. Renfert in the late 1950s. He died in 2000.
They lived in the UW Arboretum for 35 years.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon (Gretchen), Stevens Point, Blaine (Kim) and Tad (Janet), both of Madison; and seven grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann Schmitz; and one brother, Dr. Joseph F. Wepfer.
