As we begin a new year, I am purging a pile of recent news stories that I feel I should pass along, just in case you’ve been too busy to read all the stuff that crosses your path. I’m sure you could live quite well without this information, but what the heck, it helps fill a newspaper column!
The first story deals with the claim that says more drivers on the road today are women rather than men. That should put to rest all those old jokes about women drivers. And the article points out a positive effect of having more women than men operating vehicles – the author of the survey says women not only drive less and have a lower fatality rate for the distance they drive, but they tend to buy smaller and more fuel-efficient cars. So for some men, it might be wise to put aside their superiority complex behind the wheel and face reality. Also, watch your gesturing.
