George A. Hardman, 82, a longtime Stevens Point resident and a retired teacher, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church in Plover, with Pastor Gary Akright officiating. Burial will be in Plover Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the service.
Memorial may be made to the Christian Discipleship Center in Cortez, Colo.
Mr. Hardman was born July 21, 1930, a son of the late George Sr. and June Hardman. He grew up in Warrenville, Ill. He graduated from Baptist Bible College.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He was married to Patricia Ann Packer in 1957. She died in 2011.
Mr. Hardman earned a bachelor of arts degree in industrial arts and a master’s degree in special education.
He moved to Stevens Point in 1975 and taught at Ben Franklin Junior High and Stevens Point Area Senior High School in both special education and industrial arts, retiring in 1995.
After retirement, he and his wife Pat served two years as missionary teachers in the Philippines, and worked with the Navajo Indians at the Christian Discipleship Center in Cortez, Colo.
He was an active volunteer at Grace Baptist Church in Plover, leading AWANA clubs, serving as a deacon, leading singing, and working with the Sunday School program.
Survivors include three sons, Steve (Cheryl), Jim (Connie) and Ron (Sue); one daughter, Kathy (Dan) Leitch; one sister, Betty (Mike) Michael; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
