Since re-starting the varsity program in 2007, the Pacelli High School hockey co-op has continued to grow.
Along with Pacelli, the program has also branched out to included players from Amherst, Almond-Bancroft, Iola-Scandinavia, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Manawa high schools.
The Cardinals improved to 2-2 on the season Saturday, Dec. 1, at Ice Hawks Arena, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Merrill in the first period, and rolled to an 8-0 win.
“When the co-op started, we had a bunch of kids that were from all the outlying areas, and they didn’t have a place to play,” said Pacelli hockey head coach Rusty Mitch. “There were a number of (Pacelli) parents that said, ‘you know, if we can get hockey back at Pacelli, we can get some of these other kids, to give them a place to play.’
“Our goal was to have an opportunity for kids to play,” said Mitch.
