The Stevens Point Board of Public Works and Common Council voted Monday, Nov. 26, to award an engineering design and construction management contract for the 2013 reconstruction of a section of Ellis Street to Point of Beginning (POB). The votes were 4-3 and 7-3, respectively.
The engineering fee is not to exceed $45,000. Any change orders above that amount will have to come back to the Board of Public Works for review.
City staff and earlier votes of the Board of Public Works and Board of Water and Sewerage Commissions recommended a $94,436 proposal from Gremmer & Associates based on the content of the firm’s proposal and its experience with similar projects.
POB’s original quote was for $38,600, and the nearly $56,000 price difference between the proposals triggered discussion at the Common Council meeting last week, with the issue being sent back to the Board of Public Works for further discussion.
