With a number of key returnees from last season, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) women’s basketball team will look to continue its run in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and remain among the top teams in the nation this season.
The Pointers, currently ranked fourth in the USA Today Coaches Poll, have three starters back from last season’s team that won their third WIAC Title in four years and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth year in a row.
UWSP (3-1) was the top-ranked team in the nation last week, but dropped a 73-70 decision on the road to fifth-ranked St. Thomas (Minn.) (2-1) Sunday, Nov. 25, and will now open conference play at UW-Superior (3-1) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
“We have a lot of experience back, and have some really good incoming freshman,” said UWSP women’s basketball head coach Shirley Egner. “It’s a large roster, 18 kids, but they’re fun to be around and they work hard.
