As 2012 comes to an end, county leaders are focused on developing a strategic plan for the entire county in 2013.
Those leaders met with Walter Jankowski, owner of Reinvention LLC, a Madison-based consulting firm, Wednesday, Nov. 28, to begin the process of developing such a strategic plan. “I’m going to let them know what planning looks like, show them what the best practices of high performance organizations are and give them their charge for what they can do for the next month,” said Jankowski, who noted he typically works with large organizations when they want to develop strategic planning for big multi-million dollar projects.
Portage County Executive Patty Dreier said the county needs to take time to make strategic planning a priority– as she notes it will do in a series of meetings and survey assessments between now and March 19, including a Jan. 18 session of the County Board and department heads.
“Program drives property,” said Dreier. “To make decisions about property when you haven’t figured out what your strategic priorities, programs, operation or mission is about is flipping it in the wrong direction. We need to come back to the operational mission core reason of where we are going as an organization, and then let the decisions about property come from there afterward.”
