A Friday, Nov. 16, fire at a mobile home in the town of Plover claimed the life of one resident living there.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call at 7:07 a.m. reporting that a mobile home at 5955 Birch Drive was on fire. The caller, Michael Johnson, Plover, told dispatchers that he spotted smoke on Highway 54 as he was driving, and that he was unable to enter the home due to heat and smoke after stopping there.
Capt. Dale O’Kray of the Portage County Sheriff’s Department said one of the five residents living at the home, Sanjuana Esquivel, 55, died mostly likely as a result of smoke inhalation at the home, located at 5955 Birch Drive.
