The Stevens Point Common Council voted 7-4 Monday, Nov. 19, to send a recommendation to hire Gremmer & Associates for engineering services for a 2013 Ellis Street reconstruction project back to the Board of Public Works for more consideration.
At issue is a nearly $56,000 price difference between the Gremmer proposal at $94,436 and a proposal from Point of Beginning (POB) at $38,600. Both companies have offices in Stevens Point.
“POB was actually low on the project… The reason why they were so low is they wanted to do the project with Stevens Point,” said Alderperson Mike Phillips, District 10. “I don’t think they were given enough consideration.”
The city plans to reconstruct Ellis Street between Division Street and Michigan Avenue in 2013. It is the largest road project planned for the city next year and has an estimated total cost of $1 million.
