The Portage County Board of Supervisors Thursday, Nov. 1, unanimously passed the 2013 county budget.
A $107,769,341 budget Portage County Executive Patty Dreier described as “tight and balanced” and that “moves the county forward,” it is 1.7 percent greater than this year’s $105,972,748 budget.
The operating and debt levies will remain flat at $21,392,470 and $2,408,745, respectively. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) levy rate will increase three cents
The total for these three levies combined, which makes up the portion of the county’s budget taxpayers are responsible for, is $24,902,815, which is 0.67 percent greater than this year’s total levy of $24,736,792.
Factoring in equalized valuation – $4,740,222,100 for 2013; down 1.89 percent from 2012’s figure of $4,831,711,500 – the tax rate in 2013 will be 5.25, which is a 2.54-percent increase over this year’s tax rate of 5.12.
