With an undefeated season and a berth in the State Semifinals on the line, things weren’t looking good for the second-ranked Amherst High School football team late in its Level 3 Playoff Game at home against Stratford on Saturday, Nov. 3.
After the Falcons had a 19-yard field goal attempt blocked to leave the game tied at 14-14, Stratford marched down the field in three plays to set up first-and-goal at the Amherst seven-yard line with 3:15 remaining.
However, senior safety Caleb Glennon came up with an interception on fourth down and returned it 55 yards to the Stratford 35-yard-line with 28.2 seconds to play, and senior quarterback Chris Zblewski followed with a 24-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Ryan Makuski with 12.2 seconds left to send Amherst to the State Semifinals for the first time with a 21-14 victory.
