Walter “Donald” Werth, 77, Stevens Point, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Peace United Church of Christ in Stevens Point, with Pastor L. Scott Crandall officiating. Interment will be in Forest Cemetery in Stevens Point.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, until the service.

Mr. Werth was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Spokane, Wash., a son of the late Rev. Walter and Mary (Klein) Werth. At the age of 6, he moved with his parents to Fairmont, Minn., where he grew up. He graduated from Central State College (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) in 1960. He earned a master’s degree in elementary education in 1970.
After teaching several years he took the courses necessary to be licensed as a reading specialist in 1976.
Upon his retirement he volunteered at Lincoln Center, the Portage County Health Care Center and the local hospital. He was active in Peace United Church of Christ, as well as other church groups in town.
Survivors include three nieces, Kimberly Dotson, Poway, Calif., Jewell Mathias, Temecula, Calif., and Heidi Gottschalk, Phoenix, Ariz.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Welchlin.
