Richard J. Gagas, 66, Amherst Junction, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at his home after having a heart attack.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, with the Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be at Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. A general rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Gagas was born June 25, 1946, in Stevens Point, a son of Florence (Gliniecki) Gagas and the late Walter Gagas. He graduated from Rosholt High School in 1964.
He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1967.
He began working at Mengels and then Bake-Rite before owning and operating his own independent trucking company.
He was married to Charlotte Cudworth on Nov. 5, 1966, in Custer. The couple divorced in 1990.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Jeffery) Studinski, Stevens Point, and Brenda Gagas, Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Eric (Carla), Custer; his mother, Custer; eight brothers and sisters, Theresa (Ralph) Kostuch, Robert (Pat), Ronald (Sue), Ralph (Marian), Ervin (Sandi), Marvin (Tammy) and Laverne Gagas, all of Custer, and Dorothy (Henry) Flees, Amherst Junction; two grandchildren; and a special friend, Jean Simonis, Amherst Junction.
He was also preceded in death by a special friend, Julia Cornwell.
