James R. Cherney, 72, Milladore, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Unity Residence Assisted Living in De Pere, following a long battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milladore, with the Rev. John Ofori-Domah officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Wisconsin Rapids.
Visitation will be at Martens/Rembs Funeral Home in Junction City from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the Mass.

Mr. Cherney was born July 23, 1940, in Milladore, a son of the late Lambert and Marie (Hertel) Cherney. He attended Milladore Grade School and was a graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point. He received degrees in business administration and computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
He was married to Bonnie Wolcott in 1962. They later divorced.
He was employed as an accountant for 20 years at Lullabye Furniture in Stevens Point and then as a computer operator at Consolidated Papers (later Stora Enso) in Wisconsin Rapids.
Later in life he played in the Senior World Series of Baseball.
Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Stromberg, Tucson, Ariz.; four sons, Steven (Annette Honsa), Green Bay, Scott (Mary Minch), Custer, Shane (Holly), Cedar Grove, and Shaun (Kaia), Auburndale; eight brothers, Francis (Beverly), David (Bonnie) and William (Karen), all of Milladore, Richard (Karen), Junction City, Marvin (Judy), Franklin, Jerome (Debbie), Ithaca, N.Y., Henry (Heather), Hewitt, and Terrance (Kate), Richland, Wash.; three sisters, Ellen (Sylvester) Schroeder and Patricia (John) Dekarske, both of Wisconsin Rapids, and Peggy (Michael) Kosloski, Junction City; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann (Leo) Mayer; and one brother, Thomas.
