Team Schierl Companies Charitable Giving Fund and Sentry Insurance have teamed up with the help of community members to create the first Toast to the ARTS, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. at SentryWorld, 601 N. Michigan Ave., Stevens Point.
In 2004, the Arts Alliance of Portage County (AAPC) started an endowment fund at the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin (CFCW). The Arts & Culture Mission Fund’s (ACMF) annual grant allocations directly aid Portage County arts and culture. However, in 2011, budget cuts affected the Wisconsin Arts Board (WAB), drastically reducing the budget. At this time, the WAB merged with the Department of Tourism. The cuts put new limits on funding for local art organizations.
“Art organizations across the state are looking for opportunities to generate additional long-term funding to compensate for Wisconsin Arts Board budget cuts,” said Bill Schierl Toast Committee member and Team Schierl Companies co-CEO. “We have a strong arts and culture community in Portage County. Team Schierl Companies wanted to develop an event that showcased what we have and would ensure Portage County’s arts and culture financial future.”
