Last season the Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) boys cross country team won their 24th consecutive Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) Title and went on to finish seventh at state.
The Panthers return their Top 6 runners from last year’s WIAA Division 1 State Meet, and have fought injuries and illness so far this season to remain as the top-ranked team in the state.
SPASH has won each of the four meets it has competed in so far, and is looking to get healthier down the stretch, as it hopes to contend for its 10th State Title.
“Ten of our Top 12 guys have either been sick or injured, so we have yet to put a healthy team out there,” said 36th-year SPASH boys cross country head coach Donn Behnke. “But the potential is there.
“We believe that we can be a very good team,” said Behnke. “But really, you have to do it.”
