William Martell “Bill” Scribner III, 74, Casa Grande, Ariz., a Stevens Point native, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 3, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at United Methodist Church of Casa Grande in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Donations should be given to the United Methodist Church of Casa Grande Mission Fund or Seeds of Hope.
Mr. Scribner was born Nov. 15, 1937, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Anna Marie and William M. Scribner Jr. As a youth he was actively involved in the family business, Scribner’s Dairy. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1955 and Central State College (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) in 1959.
He began his teaching career in Lodi. After moving to Arizona in 1963, he taught in Williams and Tuba City before moving to Casa Grande, Ariz., in 1970, where he taught English at Casa Grande Union High School until his retirement in 1991.
He was a longtime volunteer of Seeds of Hope, a member of the United Methodist Church, and a supporter of the work and ministry of his wife of 40 years, the Rev. Carolyn Scribner.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Cinda Marie Poppe, Racine; one son, William “Marty” IV, Casa Grande, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Victoria Southworth, Wiesbaden, Germany, and Kay Greene, Tucson, Ariz.; and 16 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Sue Blake-Teague.
