The United Way of Portage County kicked off its 2012 campaign Saturday, Aug. 25, with the third annual Run, Bike, Unite Duathlon at Sentry Insurance.
Pat Wesenberg of Central City Credit Union, this year’s drive chair, announced United Way hopes to collect $2.675 million this year, which represents a 3-percent increase over last year’s goal. Funds raised will help support local nonprofit organizations focusing on education, income and health.
“My notes say we ‘hope,’ but I’m going to say we ‘plan,’ to raise, $2.675 million in our 2012 campaign,” said Wesenberg. “We know this goal will only become a reality if everyone in our community works together.”
