The Stevens Point Police Department released the name Tuesday, July 3, of a man believed to have drowned accidentally in the Wisconsin River over the weekend.
Police said the victim, Jasper F. O’Keefe, 19, a Stevens Point resident, was last seen at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, near Bukolt Park during the Riverfront Rendezvous fireworks display.
O’Keefe’s body was recovered from the Wisconsin River, just south of Bukolt Park in Stevens Point Monday, July 2, at approximately 5:30 p.m. after police received a phone call from O’ Keefe’s friends, who had been searching for him.
Police detectives said the cause of death is believed to be accidental drowning and that foul play is not suspected.
