Eric J. Duffey, 21, Fitchburg, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UW-SP), died Saturday, March 3, 2012, due to an accidental drowning.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish in Madison, with Monsignor Michael Burke presiding.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, and also following the Mass in the fellowship hall.
A Mass was also held Wednesday at the Newman Center at UW-SP.
A memorial fund will be established in his name.

Mr. Duffey was born March 3, 1991, in Madison, a son of Daren and Joan (Spurrier) Duffey. He graduated from Verona High School in 2009, where he was a member of the golf team for four years. He was currently attending UW-SP, majoring in wildlife ecology research management.
He was an active member of the UW-SP chapter of the Wildlife Society. While in high school, he worked at Meadowood Ace Hardware and then as a field technician for Monsanto while at UW-SP. He was recently hired to work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services.
Survivors include his parents; his maternal grandparents, Jim and Betty Spurrier; two aunts, Sara Duffey and Marianne (Randy) Spurrier Jackson; one uncle, Casey (Cheryl) Duffey; and some special friends, Ken and Cathy Wahlin, and Lisa and Pat O’Gara.
