Zygmunt Abrose Sakowski, 95, Stevens Point, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Portage County Health Care Center in Stevens Point, following a brief illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Junction City, with the Rev. Andrzej Panek officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the Mass.

Mr. Sakowski was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Wilmington, Del., a son of the late Jozef and Marianna (Domurad) Sakowski. At the age of 3, the family moved back to Poland. At the age of 21 he returned to the U.S.
He was married to Marian Migel on May 11, 1943, in Chicago, Ill.
They moved to the town of Carson in 1953. He worked as a cabinet maker at Vetter’s for many years and retired from construction in 1978.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1946. He was stationed at many bases in the U.S. and earned an airplane engine mechanical degree through the Army. He earned many honors during duty including the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Overseas Bar, Service Stripe and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
He was a member of the American Legion and belonged to the North Central States Carpenters Union. He was involved in the construction of many local facilities, including Sentry Insurance and Ben Franklin Junior High School.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert (Jacqui), Mount Horeb, Bill, New Mexico, and Mike (Renee) Brule; one daughter, Kathy (Jim) Mansavage, Stevens Point; one brother, Jesse, Maryland; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jozef and Walter; and two sisters, Anna and Helen.
