Edward W. Matthias, 87, Manitowoc, father of a Stevens Point man, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty in Manitowoc County, with the Rev. Gregory Pope officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Thursday until the services.

Mr. Matthias was born Feb. 27, 1924, in the town of Liberty in Manitowoc County, a son of the late William and Marie Clasen Matthias. He graduated from Valders High School in 1942.
He was married to Janet I. Glaeser on Sept. 4, 1948, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He farmed on the family farm until 1988. He also drove school bus for the Valders School District for 25 years.
He served as the sexton and secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery for many years, and was a lifelong member of the church. He also served on the church council, school board, cemetery committee and the Men’s Club of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He had also been the leader of the 4-H Webster Workers in the town of Liberty.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Bruce (Lorna), town of Liberty, Anthony, rural Kiel, David (Roxanne), Stevens Point, and Mark (Mary) and Lee (Jeanne), both of Manitowoc; one daughter, Ellen Richardson, Manitowoc; three sisters, Lorraine Ewald and Eline Glaeser, both of Manitowoc, and Bernett Lorfeld, Valders; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death two brothers, Arland (Irene) and Vilas; and one son-in-law, Robert Richardson Jr.
