Walter E. Karl, 81, a resident at River View Lodge in Stevens Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Peace United Church of Christ in Stevens Point, with the Rev. L. Scott Crandall officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park in Grand Rapids.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service.
Mr. Karl was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Waukesha, a son of the late Arthur and Anna (Katzner) Karl. He grew up there and attended the local schools.
He was married to Patricia Roder on July 31, 1949, in Waukesha.
He was a mason and carpenter who built his own home. In 1959, he and his family moved to Junction City where they lived on a farm for 10 years. He then attended Mid-State Technical College and received a degree in civil engineering. He worked several construction jobs as a site supervisor before becoming employed with Sentry Insurance as a maintenance supervisor, retiring from there.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, John (Linda), Wisconsin Rapids, Martin (Kathleen), West Bend, and Don (Charlene), Stevens Point; three daughters, Suzanne Karl, King, Kathy (Dennis) Albert, Junction City, and Lorraine (Ron) Holzem, Longmont, Colo.; four sisters, Florence, Dorothy, Tweetie and Dukie; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Jeffrey; and one brother, Richard.
