John L. Turner, 90, Waupaca, a Portage County native, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Parfreyville United Methodist Church in the town of Dayton in Waupaca County, with the Revs. John and Wendy Christianson officiating. Interment will be in Barton Cemetery in the town of Farmington in Waupaca County.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials to the Parfreyville United Methodist will be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Turner was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Blaine in Portage County, a son of the late Fred D. and Florence (Bucknell) Turner.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy and Brazil during World War II.
He was married to Lulu K. Wiles on Sept. 27, 1941, in Antigo.
He farmed and started Turners Market on Highway 54 in the town of Farmington (Waupaca County) with his family in 1965.
He was a member of Waupaca VFW Post 1037.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jeanne (Robert) Bootz, Waupaca; one son, Ross (Deborah), Waupaca; two foster daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Miller, Mauston, and Kathy O’Brien, Racine; two brothers, Claire (Marge), Waupaca, and Merle (Adora), Almond; one sister, Marie Harvey, Waupaca; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynne Turner; two sisters, Leah Wenzel and Doris Ryan; one foster sister, Neoma Wiles; and one granddaughter.
