Fern (McCormick) Carley, 94, Portage County Health Care Center, died there Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Services will beat 11 a.m. Tuesday at Plover United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Diego Orsini officiating. Burial will be in Plover Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Boston Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the services. An Eastern Star Ritual by Arbutus Chapter 52 will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are established in her name in lieu of flowers for Plover United Methodist Church or Hospice of Portage County.
Mrs. Carley was born June 24, 1906, in Plover, a daughter of the late James and Matilda (Smith) Isherwood. She attended Isherwood School, Emerson High School and Stevens Point Normal School.
She taught grade school at Maine School and Coddington School. She was also a clerk at Pierce’s Corner Grocery and later Lila’s Supermarket, retiring in 1976.
She was married to Harland K. McCormick on July 20, 1929, in Waukegan, Ill. He died Dec. 19, 1945.
She was married to Guy E. Carley on April 17, 1947, in Plover. He died Sept. 25,1963.
She was a member of Plover United Methodist Church, Arbutus Chapter 52 Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors of America, U.M.W.C., Dorcas Circle and taught Sunday school.
She also assisted her husband, Guy, as town of Plover treasurer for many years.
She volunteered at the Department on Aging.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Robert) Ciesielski, Stevens Point; three sons, Noel (Barbara) McCormick, Stevens Point, James (Shirley) McCormick, St. Charles, Mo., and Frederick Gaylen (Virginia) McCormick, Fitchburg; one stepdaughter, Arliss (Tom) Beach, Durango, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Jere Carley and William Carley; one brother; one sister and one grandson.
