Jerry J. Alft, 72, town of Saratoga (Wood County), a Portage County native, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. William Menzel officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids, with military rites by American Legion Post 9.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. There will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Alft was born March 8, 1929, in the town of Grant, a son of the late Edward and Mabel (Laging) Alft.
He was married to Kathryn Jacoby in 1949. The marriage ended in divorce.
He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from Dec. 5, 1951, to Dec. 18, 1953.
He was married to Carolyn Piekarski on Aug. 29, 1964, in Portage County.
He was a painter/decorator for Alft Decorators in Wisconsin Rapids, working with his father and brothers in the family business until retiring in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; one son, Ronald (Lori), Nekoosa; four daughters, Cheryl (Steven) Hoff, Wisconsin Rapids, Dawn Alft and Pamela Alft, both of Menasha, and Brenda (Daniel) Rolfe, Belleville; four brothers, Edward and Francis (Sue), both of Wisconsin Rapids, and Harold and Dale (Joan), both of Kissimmee, Fla.; three sisters, Margaret (Gene) Longpre, Mohawk, Mich., Eleanor (Harold) McLellan, Finley, and Delores (Larry) Downing, Wisconsin Rapids; and five grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Oscar and Lester.
