Henry S. Bigus, 86, 1527 County Trunk K, Custer, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at River Pines Center.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, with the Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the services. The St. Isadore Society and the Holy Name Society will combine with the general rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bigus was born July 25, 1914, in the town of Sharon, a son of the late Nick and Helen (Ledwroski) Bigus.
He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 6, 1942, in Milwaukee. He was a corporal with Battery B, 746th AAA Gun Battalion. He served in the Northern Solomons and South Philippines. He received the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged Dec. 22, 1945, at Camp McCoy.
He was married to Grace Kezeske on July 12, 1947.
He was a painter for various contractors and Consolidated Papers Inc. for many years.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society and St. Isadore Society, the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 185 and Rosholt American Legion Post 509.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; and one daughter-in-law, Geri Bigus, Polonia.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert; one brother, Chester; and two sisters, Lillian Bigus and Bernice Trzebiatowski.
