Harold D. Shanklin, 74, formerly of Amherst and Iola, died Tuesday, Feb 13, 2001, at the Crystal River Nursing & Rehab Center in Waupaca.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, with the Rev. Gretchen Anderson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Iola.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst and from 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Mr. Shanklin was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Mosinee, a son of the late Charles and Lydia (Schroeder) Shanklin.
He was married to Donna Fietzer on June 25, 1949, in Iola. She died June 19, 1988.
She was married to Esther (Austreng) Thompson in January 1990 in Waupaca. She died May 19, 1997.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a dairy farmer for more than 35 years.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruth (John) Propsom, Sturgeon Bay; two sons, Paul (Kathy) and Scott (Nicki), both of Iola; one sister, Priscilla Scholl, Greenfield; one brother, Bert (Lois), Scandinavia; one stepdaughter, Helen Everson, Land O’ Lakes; and one stepson, Tom Thompson, Land O’ Lakes; six grandchildren and three stepgrandchldren.
He was also preceded in death by one infant brother.
