Theresabell Leary, 99, 925 Whiting Ave., a long-time writer for the old Stevens Point Daily Journal, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Kozlowski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the services.
Boston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in her name for St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Mrs. Leary was born Dec. 31, 1901, in the town of Stockton, a daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Schleisman) Welch. She graduated from Stevens Point High School and received a degree in home economics from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
She was married to John M. Leary on May 5, 1951, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. He died April 2, 1993.
She began working for the Stevens Point Daily Journal in 1932 and covered a wide range of events during her years on the news staff before retiring in 1967.
She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the League of Women Voters and the Towne Bridge Club.
Survivors include one brother-in-law, Herb (Theresa) Leary, Stevens Point; one sister-in-law, Ceil Welch, Stevens Point; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
