The Rev. Herman C. Schedler, 102, Thiensville, a former Junction City minister and father of a Stevens Point man, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Evangelical Church Freistadt in Mequon. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the services.
Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg assisted the family with arrangements.
Rev. Schedler was born May 14, 1898, in Fischer, Minn., a son of the late Rev. Paul and Minna Schedler.
He graduated from Concordia College in 1917, and was an ordained minister in the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran church. He and his six brothers all became ministers like their father.
He was married to Lillie Marie Schlicht in June 1925. They celebrated 75 years of marriage in 2000. She died Nov. 3, 2000.
He preached in German and English at Wisconsin churches for 76 years. He started preaching in 1923 and his first assignment was to a Junction City congregation, also running churches in two neighboring communities.
He also served at congregations in and around Hamburg and Athens before becoming assistant pastor at the Freistadt church, serving there for 20 years before retiring in 1983.
He raised his own vegetables to supplement his income and also grew about 150 variety of gladioli, developing three or four strains of his own.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene (Shirley), Thiensville, Robert, Sharon, Wausau, Richard (Lorraine), Stevens Point, and Harold (Yvonne), Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Florence (Mas) Hayakawa, Monte Sereno, Calif.; one brother, Rev. Walter (Charlotte), Iron River; one sister, Minna (Roger) Thames, Sun River, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Joel, Oscar, Edmund and Arthur.
