John A. Toepel Sr., 87, Combscreek Lane, Stevens Point, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.
A memorial is established in his name for the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in lieu of flowers.
Boston Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Toepel was born April 5, 1913, in Ashland, a son of the late Oscar and Alice (Morris) Toepel. He grew up in Ashland and graduated from high school there. He attended Northland College.
He was married to Doris Martell on Dec. 31, 1938, in St. Louis, Mo. She died in 1981.
He worked for Sentry Insurance for 30 years, retiring in 1977.
He was an active member of the Stevens Point Country Club. He was Greens Committee chairman and was involved in rebuilding the course in the 1960s and building the clubhouse in the 1970s. He was also a member of the Stevens Point Curling Club.
Survivors include four sons, Terry (Barbara), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, John (Lind), Wake Forest, N.C., Steve (Lori), Stevens Point, and Bruce, Saudi Arabia; one sister, Isabel French, Ashland; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
