Charlotte M. Altenburg, 70, Brookfield, a Stevens Point native, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, following a yearlong struggle with cancer.
A funeral Mass will be held at noon Monday at St. Joseph Convent, with the Rev. Tom Lindner officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday at the convent until the services.
Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Visitation will also be held from 2 p.m. Saturday at the Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home in Wauwatosa until services there at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Altenburg was born May 25, 1930, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Peter and Agnes (Repinski) Prais. She graduated from St. Stanislaus Elementary School in 1944 and St. Joseph Academy in 1948.
She then worked with her father in the family business, Prais Religious Goods, in Stevens Point.
She was married to Thomas Altenburg on Feb. 17, 1962, at Fort Lewis, Wash., where he was stationed with the Wisconsin 32nd Division during the Berlin Crisis.
After the guard was released from active duty, they returned to Stevens Point where he was a reporter for the Stevens Point Daily Journal. They moved to Milwaukee in 1965.
She served on the Brookfield Public Library Board of Trustee for 16 years, holding the positions of secretary, treasurer and president. She was also a director and officer of the Friends of Milwaukee Repertory Theater for many years and served several terms on the Repertory Theater Board of Directors.
She was also a member of St. Stanislaus Rosary Society in Stevens Point, the Brookfield Hills Nine-Holers and the Nagawaukee Nags golf groups.
Survivors include her husband; one brother, John Prais, Stevens Point; one sister, and Dorothy Jakusz, Mosinee.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Koehl.
