Byron “Butch” Berg, 85, Iola, a Nelsonville native, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Iola Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst, with the Rev. Robert Pedretti officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Voie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Berg was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Nelsonville, a son of the late Hans E. and Ella H. (Diver) Berg. He moved to Iola with his family as a small boy. He graduated from Iola High School in 1934.
He was married to Genevieve “Jenny” Thompson on March 8, 1943, in the town of Lanark.
He worked for many years for Pete Wright of Iola and later delivered gas and fuel oil for Mortenson Oil Co.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Ann (John) Andrews, Winter; one son, Harris L. “Butch” (Patricia) Berg, Marshfield; one sister, Beverly (Robert) Ellingson, Amherst Junction; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Maude Gunderson and Edna Cahill; and two brothers, Harris and John.
