Robert F. Konkol, 70, town of Grand Rapids (Wood County), a Stevens Point native, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. William Menzel officiating. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Mausoleum in Wisconsin Rapids, with military rites held by VFW Post 2534.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Higgins Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.
Mr. Konkol was born Oct. 9, 1930, in Stevens Point, a son of Grace (Somers) Konkol and the late Felix Konkol.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He was a boiler tender on the U.S.S. Carmick.
He was married to Julie Gosh Piorier in Fancher on May 9, 1959.
He was a safety supervisor at Consolidated Papers Inc. from 1960 until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of VFW Post 2534 and was senior vice commander. He was also active in several church and community organizations.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Plover; two sons, Dan Piorier, Oregon, and Ken (Jenny) Piorier, Wisconsin Rapids; two daughters, Patti (Rick) Schoenfeld, Aurora, Colo., and May (Bill) Kell, Milwaukee; one sister, Irene (Bob) Milanowski, Stevens Point; four brothers, Raynold (Germaine) and Clifford (Judy), both of Stevens Point, Eugene (Donna), Plover, and David (Lori) Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
