Joan H. Meshak, 71, a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the Outagamie County Health Center in Appleton following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Donald Przybylski officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel and again after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. American Legion Auxiliary Post 6, of which she was a member, will have a ritual at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial has been established to the Portage County Humane Society.
Mrs. Meshak was born March 10, 1929, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late George and Helen (Anderson) Quimby. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School and then worked for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co.
She was married to Norman Meshak on Nov. 12, 1951, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point. He died July 2, 1988. He was a former Stevens Point mayor.
Survivors include one son, Norman, Stevens Point; one daughter, Susan (Randy) Welk, Appleton; one sister, Shirley (Charles) Smith, Appleton; three brothers, Donald (Gerrie) Quimby, David (Bonnie) Quimby and Thomas Quimby, all of Stevens Point; and two grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister.
