Ruth A. Kates, 94, formerly of Varna, Ill., mother of a Stevens Point woman, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at River Pines Center in Whiting.
Services were held Nov. 15 at the Hagi Funeral Home in Streator, Ill., with the Rev. Frank Kisner officiating. Burial was in Allen Cemetery in Ransom, Ill.
Remembrances should be directed to the Varna United Methodist Church in Varna, Ill., or Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Plover.
Mrs. Kates was born Nov. 4, 1906, in Downing, Mo., a daughter of the late Jonas and Elnora (Hoover) Baker.
She was married to Arthur Kates on Feb. 11, 1929, in Ransom, Ill. He died April 19, 1985.
She moved to the Stevens Point area about two years ago to be near her daughter and had resided at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Plover.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith (Jerry) Richard, Stevens Point; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
