Marion Aken, 85, Detroit Lakes, Minn., a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
A memorial service was held Oct. 26 at the West-Kjos Chapel in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. John Husband officiating. Interment was in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
There was no visitation.
The West-Kjos Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Aken was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late William and Della (Polifka) Holman. She grew up in Stevens Point and earned a teaching degree at Central State Teachers College (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point).
She was married to Ronald Murray on Nov. 5, 1937, in Milwaukee. He died in July 1966.
She moved to Round Lake, Minn., in 1966 where she worked for Multi-County Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes for six years. She moved to Park Manor in 1991.
She was married to Gerald Aken on Aug. 28, 1970, in Watertown, S.D. He died March 23, 1984.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, most recently at River Falls.
Survivors include one son, William (Linda) Murray, St. Francis, Minn.; one daughter, Eleanor (Glen) Solem, Bismarck, N.D.; one stepson, Jerome (Marilyn) Aken, Anaheim, Calif.; one stepdaughter, RoseMari (Dennis) Anderson, Frazee, Minn.; two sisters, Jean Mathison, Bellingham, Wash., and Elizabeth Humphrey, Plover; five grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters and an infant brother.
