James A. Ireland, 72, Marshfield, husband of a former Stevens Point woman, died at his home Monday, Oct. 30, 2000.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church in Marshfield, with the Rev. Charles D. Stoetzel officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield. American Legion Post 54 will conduct gravesite military rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home in Marshfield and on Thursday at the church before the services. A parish rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be designated in his name to Columbus High School or the Marshfield Medical Foundation for Arthritis Research.
Mr. Ireland was born July 29, 1928, in Marshfield, a son of the late Charles and Adelia (Nennig) Ireland.. He attended St. John Grade School and vocational school in Marshfield.
He served in the U.S. Army from April 11, 1946, until his honorable discharge on Oct. 2, 1947.
He was married to Audrey C. Vicker on Aug. 29, 1949, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point.
After his discharge, he worked for the Marshfield Telephone Exchange Co., which later became GTE, until retiring after 37 years.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and American Legion Post 54.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Ken; two daughters, Mary Jo (Mike) Spahn, Sun Prairie, and Jane (Tim) Lenz, Spencer; one sister, Jean (John) Breu, Marshfield; and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Patrick J.; one sister, Doris Swenson; and an infant brother.
