Charles Richard Knippel, 72, Whiting, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at St. Michael’s Hospital.
There will be no formal services in accordance with the family’s request.
Jensen & Jinsky Funeral Home in Plover is assisting the family with arrangements for cremation.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Operation Bootstrap or a local food pantry.
Mr. Knippel was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Wausau, a son of Walter and Beatrice Knippel. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1946.
He joined Wisconsin Telephone Co. as a lineman in June, 1946, working in Sheboygan, Merrill and Stevens Point. He retired as a systems analyst with AT&T in 1983 after 38 years of service.
He was married to Rosemarie “Rosebud” Thompson on May 6, 1950, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill.
He was a member of C.W.A. and Telephone Pioneers of America and volunteers installing equipment for St. Michael’s Hospital’s Lifeline Program.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sue (Lee) Beveridge, Cam Dahl and Jane Knippel, all of Stevens Point; three sons, Toby (Deb) and K.C., both of Stevens Point, and Todd (Chris), Whiting; one sister, Carol Prain, Wausau; and five brothers, Andrew, Raymond, Larry and Peter, all of Wausau, and Jim (Cathy), California; and six grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
