Albin A. Witkowski, 84, Wausau, a Stevens Point native, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Friday at The Church of St. Anne in Wausau, with the Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum in Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home in Wausau and at the church Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the services. There will be a VFW. Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Witkowski was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Vincent and Mary (Hurrish) Witkowski.
He graduated from Stevens Point High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Whitewater, receiving a bachelor’s degree after majoring in English and business.
He was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, completing twenty-plus missions as a bombardier.
He was married to Geraldine Wolfe on Aug. 7, 1948, in Stevens Point. She died Dec. 5, 1982.
He was employed as an underwriter for Wausau Insurance for 33 years.
He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388 in Wausau, and a member of the Church of St. Anne in Wausau.
Survivors include one daughter, Jill (Larry) Woller, Merrill; one brother, Herb (Betty) Witkowski, Stevens Point; one sister, Irene Elchlepp, Stevens Point; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Lenny.
