Marie J. Welch, 93, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at River Pines Center where she resided.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Donald Przybylski officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oshkosh.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in her name for “Birthright” and “Right to Life.”
Boston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Welch was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Oshkosh, a daughter of the late Walter and Theresa (Wolf) Joyce. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Oshkosh.
She was married to Emmett Welch on July 17, 1936, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh. He died Dec. 7, 1985.
In 1940 the couple came to Stevens Point. She served as a Cub Scout den mother for six years, and was a member of St. Stephen Home and School Association and Catholic Daughters of America.
She taught classes at Mid-State Technical College several years ago. A collection of her poems and essays were compiled into a book entitled “Moments of Beauty” in the early 1990s.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, its Rosary Society, the Town Bridge Club and American Legion Post 6Auxiliary. She was also a member and former legislative chairman for the La Crosse Diocesan Deanery.
Survivors include one daughter, Lucie (James) Sovey, Strongsville, Ohio; three sons, Michael (Bridget), Chicago, Ill., Patrick (Cheryl), Stevens Point, and Terrance (Jan), Lenexa, Kansas; one sister, Gertrude Joyce, Oshkosh; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Joyce; one brother, Walter Joyce; and one granddaughter.
