Richard M. Mayek, 77, S243 Highway E, Stevens Point, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home until the services.
Mr. Mayek was born Oct. 16, 1922, a son of the late Anton and Lydia (Kawleski) Mayek.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on Jan. 6, 1943, in Milwaukee. He was a corporal with HQ 98th Bomber Wing, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, four Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged Oct. 18, 1945, at Camp McCoy.
He was married to Frances Klesmith in March 1952 at St. Peter Catholic Church. She died April 25, 1994.
He was employed at Breitenstein Co. in Stevens Point and later Swanson Equipment, retiring in 1987.
Survivors include one son, Larry (Pat), Stevens Point; three sisters, Helen Greziak and Ceil Mattson, both of Stevens Point, and Wanda Hull, Milwaukee; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, one sister and one stepson.
